Students taught by adjuncts may learn more, study finds

Students with weak academic preparation may learn more when taught by adjunct instructors instead of tenure-track professors, according to a new study conducted at Northwestern University and released by the National Bureau of Economic Research. The study's authors, however, do not support ending the two-tiered faculty system. "Our results provide evidence that the rise of full-time designated teachers at U.S. colleges and universities may be less of a cause for alarm than some people think, and indeed, may actually be educationally beneficial," they write.
