Worrying U.S. workforce numbers may cause Fed to pause

The U.S. Federal Reserve faces a quandary as it contemplates tapering its bond-buying program this month, with the latest drop in the unemployment rate reflecting not so much the addition of jobs as it does a declining rate of workforce participation due to dejected jobseekers. In addition, inflation remains below target, offering no compelling reason to raise interest rates.
