Bush says one-year extension of current transportation programs possible

President Bush announced on a campaign stop that, while he hopes Congress will pass a six-year transportation bill, he supports the possible alternative of lawmakers adopting a one-year extension of the current highway and transit programs. Two bills calling for about $300 billion in funding are on the table in the House-Senate conference as lawmakers compromise on a final version.
