Millions lack pain relief due to fears of addiction, crime

Over 5 million people are not receiving pain relieving drugs to treat cancer or the later stages of HIV/AIDS, according to the World Health Organization, notes this special report from the New York Times. In some countries, doctors and law enforcement authorities fear providing drugs such as morphine will lead to addiction and increased drug-related crime.
