N.J. district shuttered Friday for fire-code violations

Some 28,000 students were locked out of school on their second day as Paterson, N.J., city inspectors closed all 52 buildings in the state's third-largest district. Schools were expected to reopen today, and the district has 30 days to fix the worst of 267 fire-code violations, some of which date back as early as 2006.
