Shale leases for Pittsburgh airports face local power struggle

The Allegheny County Council in Pennsylvania may prevent the exploration of natural gas contained in Marcellus Shale formations at the Pittsburgh International and Allegheny County airports. The Allegheny County Airport Authority said it plans to seek bids on more than 9,000 acres, but the council Tuesday introduced a measure that would bar leasing without its approval.
