Strict diabetes control linked to long-term health benefits

A study found diabetes patients who tightly control their blood sugar levels are rewarded with a so-called legacy effect -- a lower risk of heart attack, death and other complications from the disease later in life. Researchers say the findings support aggressive treatment plans for newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetics.
