Telepsychiatry a fast-growing sector of telemedicine

Telepsychiatry has grown rapidly as a way to overcome the shortage of mental health workers and serve patients needing treatment. Christopher Thomas, a child psychiatry professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, says good video equipment allows the psychiatrist to see everything needed for a proper evaluation. "It's not really different from seeing patients face to face. And it helps reduce barriers and improves access to care," he said.
