Google makes bid to collect fees for newspaper content

Google is reportedly planning to extend its Checkout payment system to cover fees for some online content, to accommodate news organizations looking to charge users. The plan was developed in response to an RFP for content-payment services, issued by the Newspaper Association of America. Microsoft, IBM and Oracle are among 10 additional companies that submitted proposals.
