Problems with structural welds delay work on S.F. Bay Bridge

California officials recently learned of problems with structural welds used in decking and beam construction on the new span of San Francisco's Bay Bridge. The Chinese plant manufacturing the beams must now redo the welds, after on-site inspection there by the firms working on the bridge found the problems. This will push back shipment time and perhaps increase costs.
