First steps toward a reduced federal carbon footprint

Energy-efficient weapons systems and biofuel-powered battleships are just two of many new green initiatives being rolled out by the Pentagon and 55 other agencies of the U.S. government. The goal is to greatly reduce the federal carbon footprint over the next 10 years. "These actions will have an economic return for the American taxpayer," said Michelle Moore, who is helping lead the "greening of government" initiative for the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
