Large egg farms come with potential for big problems

Giant egg farms have the potential to take much larger hits when something goes wrong, as evidenced by the recent massive recall of more than half a billion eggs from two Iowa farms, experts say. The U.S. is home to 434 "mega-farms" that supply the majority of the nation's egg supply each year and allow farms to make money. But headaches can grow along with the size of the farm. "Disease is the big problem because you're constantly introducing new birds into the system," said the chairman of the Association of California Egg Farmers.
