Activists dump mattresses to build support for recycling measure

Environmentalists scattered filthy mattresses across the north steps of California's state Capitol last week to draw attention to proposed legislation that would create a statewide recycling program for used bedding. "The bill will remove mattresses from our streets, help create new green jobs and save money for local governments," said state Sen. Loni Hancock, a co-author of the measure.
