Calif. lawmaker vows to try again to expand NP role

California state Sen. Ed Hernandez, D-West Covina, the author of a failed bill to expand the scope of practice for nurse practitioners, said he plans to reintroduce the measure within two years. "I really believe that if we're going to be mandating that everyone has health insurance, it's our responsibility as policymakers to make sure they can see someone safely ... and that they can have access to care," Hernandez said.
