Mass., R.I. are frontrunners in offshore-wind race, exec says

Although the Cape Wind offshore wind project is "on a good path," and the Massachusetts state government has done "absolutely everything in its power and abilities" to help it along, it's too early to claim victory in the race to have the first operational offshore wind farm in the U.S., said state Energy and Environmental Secretary Rick Sullivan. Both Massachusetts and Rhode Island are "in the running" to be first, but the competition is "good natured," said Cape Wind spokesman Mark Rodgers. Neither Cape Wind nor Deepwater Wind in Rhode Island are concerned that the other's progress might hinder them, Rodgers said.
