Panel recommends approval of new COPD treatment

An FDA panel voted 11-2 to recommend approval of GlaxoSmithKline's inhaled drug Anoro Ellipta for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The drug is a combination of vilanterol and umeclidinium. Some members of the panel cited safety concerns including data that suggest a possible link between the drug and heart problems.
