Review: Kitchen backsplashes get makeovers

Designers and manufacturers have updated the kitchen backsplash and turned the mess-minimizing kitchen staple into a design element that can fit the room’s décor. Element Designs of Charlotte, N.C. uses artwork on paper and LED lights to give backsplashes added utility, Colorado architecture firm Forum Phi uses cut down plate mirrors in white grout to create a new style, and Quebec-based Think Glass has employed textured glass to bring a raw look to a room.
