Study examines deep tissue injury progression to pressure ulcer

A retrospective, single-site, two-year study found that suspected deep tissue injuries in hospitalized adults can be prevented from progressing into a stage II or worse pressure ulcer using a standard protocol of supportive and topical care. However, some sDTIs can progress to a stage III or worse pressure ulcer, and more research is needed to identify risk factors and best intervention practices.
