Study: Rising incidence of C. diff highlights public health need

Data presented at the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy revealed that the incidence of Clostridium difficile infections in the U.S. rose from the 2001 figure of 4.5 cases per 1,000 hospitalizations to 8.2 cases per 1,000 hospitalizations in 2010. "These data underscore the importance of directing resources to the prevention of [C. difficile infection], as well as developing public policy for reducing the incidence of these infections in U.S. hospitals," said researcher Kelly Daniels.
