New Orleans superintendent lives up to expectations

Former Hartford, Conn., Superintendent Anthony Amato has spent seven months bringing new focus to the troubled New Orleans school system, where 100 out of 119 schools were ranked below the state's academic, attendance and dropout standards. Observers praise Amato for obtaining a contract with the teachers union before the start of the school year and standardizing math and reading programs.
