As Starbucks Corp. works toward its 30,000-store goal, some investors fear the coffee chain is headed for a fall, just as McDonald's Corp. slipped when it passed the 30,000-location threshold in 2001. Despite reporting lackluster same-store sales this summer, Starbucks executives see plenty of room for growth and plan to keep the menu fresh to please customers.
