D.C. may spend $1.3 billion to modernize schools:

Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty on Wednesday unveiled a plan to spend $1.3 billion to modernize District of Columbia schools. The plan calls for physical improvements to the schools between 2009 and 2014. "We'll completely bring our inventory up to date within five years of the start of the 2008-09 school year," Fenty said.
