Marriage bill is moving forward in nation's capital

Washington, D.C., is poised to become the first jurisdiction below the Mason-Dixon Line to offer equal marriage rights. Out City Councilman David Catania said he has lined up 10 co-sponsors for a marriage-equality bill, which also must be approved by Congress. The measure would amend current law to stipulate that "marriage is the legally recognized union of two people" and that "any person who otherwise meets the eligibility requirements ... may marry any other eligible person regardless of gender."
