Calif. Senate passes autism coverage bill

The California Senate voted 25-4 in favor of Senate Bill 946 to require health insurers to provide coverage for children with autism and other developmental disorders in the state, but is not extending the coverage rule to children covered under the state's Medi-Cal program. The measure, which now goes to Gov. Jerry Brown, is similar to legislation in 27 other states, including New York, Florida and Massachusetts.
