Veterinarians are at the ready should disaster strike

The Veterinary Medical Assistance Teams program, created by the AVMA in 1992 after Hurricane Andrew, is comprised of five groups of veterinarians and technicians across the country ready to provide medical services quickly in the event of an emergency. Part of the National Disaster Medical System, VMAT is called on for state and national emergencies to be primary responders or deal with overflow.
