FCC may make it easier for CLECs, cable firms to merge

Federal regulators are expected to approve a waiver that would allow competitive local exchange carriers and cable companies to merge within their regions. The Federal Communications Commission is considering lifting enforcement of a rule that prohibits acquisitions or mergers that amount to holding more than a 10% stake in another in-region cable company or CLEC, said Christopher King, an analyst with Stifel Nicolaus.
