Case study shows utility of PET/CT in ID of cardiac infection after PCI

A case study in a cardiology journal indicates PET/CT has potential to identify infection in patients who have undergone coronary stent placement. An 80-year-old patient who tested positive for E. coli after undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention was found to have purulent pericarditis based on cardiac PET/CT imaging results, researchers said.
