Designing memorials: The World Trade Center 12 years later

Twelve years ago, the World Trade Center towers in New York City collapsed in a terrorist attack. Today, 1 World Trade Center, with its concrete core, stands 1,776 feet tall, its observation deck being readied for its anticipated 2015 opening. The memorial with its concrete pathways is often crowded, and some architects discuss that and other types of challenges that must be faced when designing a memorial.
