Former American Candy Co. employees gather to reminisce

Former employees of the now-shuttered American Candy Co. gathered last weekend in Selma, Ala., to reminisce about their time working there. The company, founded in 1899, was sold off after 90 years in business owing to struggles with cheap labor costs overseas and high sugar prices. “I doubt if we could have survived another decade the way things were headed,” said former longtime President Richard Gibian.
