Gift chocolate sales hold up

Demand for gift chocolates has remained robust despite a gloomy economic environment in the U.K., Thorntons reports. The company reported a 1.3% increase in sales for fiscal year 2013 for a total of $347.7 million in sales. "More than ever, consumers increasingly view chocolates as an affordable and acceptable alternative to higher priced gift categories," said Thorntons CEO Jonathan Hart.
