Mo. middle-schoolers volunteer at elementary school on Sept. 11

Seventh- and eighth-grade students from Bode Middle School in St. Joseph, Mo., spent Sept. 11 participating in an annual day of service, observing the anniversary of the attacks by helping teachers at local elementary schools. Some students tutored younger children or helped clean or sort classroom supplies. "I think it's important for the kids to learn this type of activity and why it's important," teacher Rita Hubbard said.
