Pastry chef takes on $4.50 per day dining challenge

Michael Mina pastry chef Lincoln Carson accepted the San Francisco Food Bank's 5-Day Hunger Challenge, agreeing to stick to a $4.50 per-person daily food budget with supplements from the food bank to gain greater insight into the plight of low-income households. "Being a chef, I think you don’t look at food issues so much because you’re surrounded by it, so it’s a strange dichotomy. That’s why I wanted to be a little more participatory to understand why money needs to be raised for this cause," he said.
