Rise of e-cigarettes prompts need for new policy

A growing number of New York City restaurants are determining for themselves whether e-cigarettes, which provide a battery-powered smoke-free hit of nicotine, come under the city's 10-year-old smoking ban. Some say the gadgets are intrusive and will be banned from the dining room, while others opt to allow e-smokes as long as they don't bother other patrons. "I'm happy to have them. Nothing is worse than our kitchen having to hold/replate/refire an order because a guest decided to step out for a puff between courses," said Do or Dine chef and owner Justin Warner.
