Smucker chief explains M&A strategy

J.M. Smucker focuses on strategic fit, financial metrics and brand attractiveness when considering an acquisition, CEO Richard Smucker said at the Barclays Back to School Conference. The company classifies acquisitions into three categories: transformational, bolt-on and enabling. The third was recently demonstrated when the company purchased natural-food firm Enray, Smucker said.
