Studies: EHRs may limit ER use, bolster primary care diagnoses

Two studies published in JAMA found EHRs may help reduce emergency department use among diabetes patients and improve early diagnoses in primary care practices. "Electronic health records increase access to timely and complete patient information at the point of care, with potential to improve the quality and efficiency of care delivered, including improved care coordination," wrote Kaiser Permanente researchers who did the study on EHRs and ER usage.
