Wood wedges used to prevent shaking in Alaska pipeline

Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. is having its workers wedge blocks of wood underneath shaky pipe sections as a temporary measure to prevent potentially dangerous vibrations in a pump station of the trans-Alaska pipeline. A spokesman for the company said the technique, called cribbing, is common in the industry.
