Tokyo's Nikkei 225 Average advanced 0.9%, the broader Topix index gained 1.3% and China's Shanghai Composite was little changed. The Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong slid 0.2%, the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index dropped 0.8% and South Korea's Kospi advanced 2.4%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 added 1.9%, New Zealand's NZX 50 index climbed 0.8% and Taiwan's Taiex added 0.9%. The Straits Times index in Singapore rose 1.5%, Malaysia's KLSE Composite edged up 0.2% and India's Sensex gained 0.3%.
