Energy Department will release oil from strategic reserve

The Energy Department announced Thursday it will release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to two refiners because of Hurricane Gustav supply interruptions. Placid Refining will get 130,000 barrels of oil from the reserve and Marathon will get an additional 250,000 barrels to use in its Midwest refineries along the Capline pipeline system. Marathon's previous request for an initial 250,000 barrels of oil had been granted by the DOE.
