EU report prompts calls to hasten biotech-crop approvals

The European Union's Joint Research Centre has released a study saying that foods containing biotech ingredients under evaluation for regulatory approval have not caused dangerous side effects. The report indicates that Europe must "move forward" and clear bioengineered crops amid increasing food prices, a member of the European Parliament said. Trade group EuropeBio said the study will help ease the public's concerns about the safety of biotech foods.
