Addressing the specific dietary issues facing the elderly, including weight gain, can lead to better health and quality of life, says Linette de Armas, a registered dietitian at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. Eating the proper diet can be difficult for seniors, however, because of ill-fitting dentures, high food costs, medication interactions, lack of access to healthy foods and loss of taste.
