Losing your job doesn't negate a noncompete pact, expert says

Being laid off doesn't necessarily void a noncompete agreement, so it's best to consult a lawyer before accepting another job that may violate it or a confidentiality agreement, says Karen Johnston, an employment lawyer. She suggests negotiating for waivers to the agreement with the employer before seeking another job.
