Will patients get EHRs on a CD, a flash drive or a Web portal?

The HITECH Act allows patients to access their electronic health records in an electronic format, but exactly how that should be accomplished and which formats will be acceptable are still up in the air, said Lou Ann Wiedemann, director of professional practice resources at the American Health Information Management Association in Chicago. Wiedemann will discuss issues relating to patients' rights to access their EHRs and to request changes to their records during a session at AHIMA's convention in October.
