Dietitians can help older adults prevent muscle loss

Early screening to identify older adults at risk for unintended weight loss and undernutrition or malnutrition is important for preventing and managing sarcopenia, or progressive muscle loss. For at-risk patients, dietitians can do further nutrition assessments, develop a dietary plan to increase protein and vitamin D, and make exercise recommendations to maximize muscle mass.
