First-year teacher focuses on structure for students with autism

Nicole Gauthier is in her first year as a teacher, working with kindergarten and first-grade students who have autism. "These kids need organization and structure in their world, so everything we do in class needs to provide that," Gauthier, who works at Summerfield Elementary School in Riverview, Fla. "I use lots of pictures and visuals to help them communicate their feelings, wants and needs."
