CDC director: Zoonotic disease control is vital to public health

CDC director and physician Thomas Frieden emphasized the crucial connection between the work of public health officials and human health worldwide at a National Press Club gathering Tuesday. Frieden said increasing globalization continues to drive the spread of pandemic-potential diseases, making programs that identify and work to stem the spread of emerging threats key. In particular, Frieden cited lessons learned from the emergence of zoonoses such as SARS.
