Childhood vaccination rates remain high, but measles cases on the rise

Between 2009 and May 2011, childhood vaccine coverage in the U.S. was at or above 90% for recommended doses of the measles, mumps and rubella; polio; hepatitis B; and chickenpox vaccines, the CDC reported Thursday. Although the rate of MMR vaccination was almost 91%, there have been 159 cases of measles this year through Aug. 24, the second largest count since 2000. The findings were published in the agency's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
