Higher post-op mortality risk seen in diabetes patients

Patients with type 1 diabetes, uncontrolled diabetes or certain comorbidities were at increased odds of 30-day mortality following noncardiac surgery compared with those without diabetes, a study in Diabetes Care indicated. Researchers said diabetes patients were also more likely than control patients to have longer hospital stays, complications and higher health care costs.
