Quinn falls short in NYC mayoral primary

New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn finished third in the city's Democratic mayoral primary on Tuesday, ending her bid to become the city's first female and openly lesbian mayor. "This was a hard-fought race, we took a lot of knocks, we were up against a lot of odds, but I am proud of the race we all ran," Quinn told supporters during her concession speech Tuesday night. If a recount shows Bill de Blasio secured the 40% support needed to avoid a runoff with second-place finisher William C. Thompson, he will face Republican Joseph J. Lhota in the November general election.
