Coming soon to building industry: Customization for the masses?

The concept of "mass customization," in which products are made on an assembly line but individually configured according to customer specifics, may be making its way to architecture. While today's "manufactured buildings" are made with standardized specs, experts say the not-too-distant future holds the possibility of entire buildings being produced in factories while responding to site-specific and project-specific requirements.
