Middle schools: An idea whose time has passed?

Some of the largest urban districts in New Jersey are retooling their middle schools into K-8 facilities to create a community feeling and sense of connection that large, impersonal middle schools often lack. Some educators believe the K-8 model can reduce truancy, violence and dropout rates.
